What is In Home Care (IHC)
The In Home Care (IHC) program is part of the Government’s Child Care Package and provides flexible care that supports families’ workforce participation and child care requirements where other options are not available or appropriate. It is available to eligible families and involves the delivery of subsidised early childhood education and care in the family home.
The IHC program focuses on the provision of consistent, high-quality early childhood education and care under the revamped IHC program. According to the Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE), each IHC service must deliver, ‘A tailored, individual education program based on each child’s knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests.’
Accreditation
IHC focuses on education and early childhood development and delivers them in a home environment. The IHC Service like us will undergo the accreditation process, and the DESE will monitor IHC Services for adherence to the quality requirements. We must adhere to the IHC Guidelines, IHC standards (handbook) and obligations under the Family Assistance Law.
CCS for IHC Eligibility Criteria
The parents or carers of the child are working non-standard or variable hours, outside normal child care service hours;
The parents or carers of the child are geographically isolated from other types of approved child care, including because they reside in a rural or remote location; and
Families with complex or challenging needs.
What is Montessori?
Montessori is an approach to supporting the full development of human beings. The Montessori approach offers a broad vision of education as an ‘aid to life’. As an educational system, it is used in over 22,000 schools worldwide and has a longer track record of success than any other educational approach in the world. The Montessori approach to education, inspires children towards a lifelong love of learning, by following their natural developmental trajectory. Children become confident, responsible, independent learners, who trust in their own abilities. The inclusivity and positive social development facilitated by the Montessori program form the basis for a persistent attachment to learning and knowledge.
Dr Maria Montessori, a physician, anthropologist and pedagogue, developed her unique method of educating children over a professional career that spanned over fifty years. The Montessori approach was developed through intense scientific observation of children from many ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds from birth to maturity. It is based upon a deep understanding of child development.
Tailored Learning for Holistic Development
The Montessori Method is characterised by providing a prepared environment, which allows the children to express themselves, explore their environments, as well as have access to quality resources that enable them to continuously grow and learn. Therefore, our in-home Montessori-trained IHC educator will set up the Montessori-style spaces, and develop a program that is based on the child’s age, current interests and skills, to make sure students are challenged physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially.
